Agree with
sukhk527 . Most likely a valve cover gasket leaking oil onto the manifold/exhaust. And given there are probably 1,000,000 BMWs on the road at any given time with a leaking VC gasket you are probably okay to drive it for awhile.
But oil does burn if you get enough of it on there... so don't put it off forever. Cost depends on model. But I'm guessing $800-1200. Never paid someone to do the job so maybe someone who has can chime in.
