I know...there's been threads before. I've read most of them and went "won't happen to me". Went on first trip on the weekend, 50i is 5500Km old. Half an hour into trip I get "you need 2 liters of oil" on screen. Stop and put in 1 liter, measure oil..."you need 2 liters". Next day put in 1 more...."you need 2 liters". Put in 1 more - 3 in total now! Measure again....half way up the measure mark. Previous threads have posted BMW considers 1 quart in 750 miles acceptable in the "up to 6000 miles" break-in period. So far I have done about 1 quart per 1500 miles. These can't have a run-in oil, as we get to go to 20000km before first service. I will do mine at 10000. The car was kept under 4000rpm for run-in, and then it has been taught a lesson every time I drive it. Does the consumption get better?
