can you explain how higher revs and higher oil temps create less consumption?

the old theory was if you flog the motor during the break-in period the piston rings expand and seal better a la the motorcycle break-in method but i don't see how driving a vehicle hard consumes less oil than moderate civilized driving.

i am on 8k and have not topped off yet between oil changes. the oil level does go down slightly but not to the point of triggering a warning. i carry a spare litre of oil 0w30 (spec for the motor) in a bmw oil bag just in case but as of yet have not needed.
