So you're saying I need to do paint protection before doing ceramic coating?
Based on my car specs from the factory, it does say "outer skin protection".
I assume that holds true for most BMWs.
A good and well trained detailer should do the following (quotes from Detailer Domain):

•Provide a professional inspection of your vehicle's paintwork
•Remove surface contaminants ie:leftover adhesive, tree sap, tars, bugs, etc.
•Bring out the full potential of the paint by increasing gloss and smooth paint surface -> paint correction
•Provide a durable protection of the exterior surfaces using high quality sealants or coatings -> ceramic coating in this case
