As a diesel fan, however, this paragraph alone is all I needed to deviate from diesel at this given point in time...you never know what comes out of this in a year time...it's best to stay away from it until the dust it settled "completely".
Some people are naturally more cautious. Others aren't. You may lose sleep over buying a diesel while others will revel in driving one. For you, yes, it is best to skip the oil burner but that doesn't mean it is best for others.

Personally, I have zero reservations buying a BMW diesel. I can even make the argument that a used one will be in more demand in a few years because the conservative buyers who stayed away created a shortage on the market.

Different strokes for different folks.
