Indeed. I almost mentioned that in my post - I’ve drawn a comparison between the two before. So they are in good company. In the past, They even produced a prototype with 450hp using an additional 48V electric supercharger:

Mercedes next version of the 4 cylinder AMG engine is rumored to have hybrid assist as well, probably similar to their new inline six cylinder (which is also 48V). So these two may continue to converge on similar solutions. Of course, Mercedes still has other larger displacement engines with a lot more power while Volvo will continue to power their whole fleet with different versions of the I4, gradual relying more and more on hybrid assistance and eventually pure electric power.
