Engine repair under warranty or new engine?

I purchased a 2016 X5 50i with M sport package (59,000 miles) from the dealer with an extended warranty (third party).

It has now failed the oil consumption test. BMW refuses to cover the repair or engine replacement as I purchased the car secondhand after the class action settlement was announced.

My extended warranty will cover the repair of the valve stem seals and the timing case cover gaskets for an invoiced amount of ~$12,600.

The dealership has offered to do a brand new engine replacement instead if I want to kick in an additional $4,000.

Does anyone think the additional price is worth a brand new engine?
