Mine did the same thing but my retaining tabs were broken . I think they broke them when they removed it to apply the clear protex to the front end. Dealership replaced under warranty. So far so good but I agree they are poorly designed.
What pisses me off even more is that BMW won't correct the design flaw ( I have a 2014 ) but will pay for replacements !
