I asked my local dealer - BMW of Sterling - about doing Melbourne Red in 2013, 2014, and 2015 and each time they said the factory said no. Maybe it was just good timing in 2016, or perhaps the policy on special paint changed, or perhaps going through David Aviles helped....maybe a combination of those factors? But in any case, when I went through David Aviles last fall and he contacted BMW individual, it was no problem at all.

The guys at the Performance Center told me that true individual colors wouldn't be possible on any of the X models since they aren't set up for that at the plant, but Melbourne Red and Long Beach blue are already colors they paint the X5M and X6M so they agreed to that color with no problem.
