OK, update. I think I accidentally negotiated myself a great price.
I told the salesman on Friday that I needed to get the "Total Purchase" down to $66,000. I was using his language from the original quote and meant "everything before TTL".
Exchanged email with him again yesterday. He tried a couple of times to get me to "come in and discuss this" and I told him, "I don't need to come in until I know we have we have a deal."
He replied and said, "I can't get down to $66,000, but let's not waste each other's time. I can give you a drive off of $70,000."
Got home and did the math and that actually works out to $65,141 purchase price, or 11% below $73,364 MSRP (including incentives - not sure what's what). I guess he misunderstood my original email and lifted his skirt too early.
Either way, it sounds like I will be taking him a deposit on Monday.
