I'm sure you are quite aware that the sdrive is rear wheel drive. That being said, I am also unaware of your weather down in Texas. I am from Chicago and have bought only one SUV that wasn't all wheel drive or 4x4 and have seriously regret it.
Rain, snow, or any other typically bad weather, and I don't think you will like the performance of the car. The suv I bought was front wheel drive and it was terrible. I couldn't imagine driving the rear wheel drive up here. Rear wheel drive cars are considered summer cars up here. I also don't do any off-roading, just typical daily driving.
I would personally spend the extra $3k for all wheel drive. Just my opinion!
