I just successfully updated my 2016 X5 today as well. Followed post #63 in this thread and it worked great, below are my steps modified from post #63:

- I've checked the navigation current map version and confirmed it is NBT.
- Downloaded the 2020-1 map from a Google Drive link someone posted (Thanks!!)
- Made sure my flash drive is FAT32 formatted. It's a USB 3.1, 64 GB flash drive btw. I used the FAT32Formatter program to do this. http://www.ridgecrop.demon.co.uk/ind...?guiformat.htm
- Extracted the zip file I downloaded, copied everything in the main folder to the root of the USB drive.
- Went to my car, turned the car ignition on, waited until navigation is loaded
- After 5-10 seconds car displayed a message saying it found a more recent map data on the flash drive. Giving me options to update or cancel.
- After selecting update, it took about 45 minutes. The car went to sleep but simply pressing the volume button brought it back to the update screen, so it updates in the background, no worries about keeping the car awake.

I purchased my EBay code from this link, got the code after a few hours. Although my car never asked for a code when I did the update, so can't verify if the code I purchased actually worked. Guessing the previous owner of my X5 already put in a lifetime code so I bought one needlessly.
