The steering wheel, the diff, the engine and the suspension are M - specific, as far as I can recall, on the '11 X5M. If it were otherwise, it would just be an M - Sport X5.

But yes, the seats could be more tight, and the tranny definitely is the lowest point of the car. Although, I have to say the X5M in its current gen is still a very fun car to drive and has substantial power and torque reserves.
