In BT, you'll get album art only from reading music you have in your iPhone (from Apple music app), and then you can also fully control your library (search, list, play/pause/next/previous, etc.)

Yes. You are correct that the best app for track info but not album art is the Music App on my iPhone 5S. The problem is I don't listen to that music and use Spotify these days. The other BT streaming apps like Soptify work with playing the music and song skipping but the iDrive only reads the first song and doesn't update after that.
