Exact reason why snow tires are made. Even with snow tires, there is no guarantee you will stop depending on the incline and amount of ice but I have had a close save a few times where all seasons might have meant hitting something. In fact I was going around 15 through a parking lot yesterday with black ice and 35F temperature and someone just walked into an intersection with a baby stroller (stroller was skidding with wheels up) and I braked and slid too for a short distance. Did I want to be on all seasons in this situation, absolutely not.

OP - kudos on making the right call. As a former 14 year Boston resident, I can tell you its worth it first hand to invest in better rubber for the winter.
