I have read about this as well but I don't think that's it because the dpf is on the opposite side of the high pressure pump and the smell and heat was definitely from the right side of the engine standing facing the engine bay, also the fuel rail was hot hot hot
but I could be wrong smell and stuff travels in a engine bay were it sometimes can be difficult to determine the source
