So, at best, the most optimistic examples
might break even in five years. As I said, doesn't make financial sense. Most people who can afford new cars of this sort don't keep cars for more than five years anyway, and if they do, what condition is the battery in at that point? Hybrids are an emotional, feel good purchase, which is fine as long as it's recognized as such. Most of us purchase based on what makes us feel good, otherwise we would all be in identical little white appliance cars. It just amuses me how much people fool themselves into justifying hybrids as an intelligent purchase, then try to convince the rest of us. New technologies are evolving, R and D is advancing the tech forward, slowly, and it will probably get there in the foreseeable future, but it's not quite there yet.
