If your car is a lease, I would just go by the recommend interval and do annual changes or every 10K miles for free. If you purchased your car, the choice is yours and if it helps you sleep better at night, go ahead with oil changes every 5k miles. However, it will be on your own dime and there is no proof the car will last any longer compared to a car at 10k mile intervals.
