Everyone at some point resorts to this question. If the filter was low down and behind the bumper, you went into a puddle at full speed and didn't let off the gas, then you'd have a valid concern. Seeing as at most all you're getting is water spray (water injection is based solely on water spray) the odds of damaging water ingestion are slim to none. Nevertheless I do have K&N water socks overtop the B&M filters I'm running. I live in Seattle where it rains 9+ months outta the year, I drive my X5M (twin turbo), 740iL6, 328 and Harley F150 (supercharged)...all of which have an exposed cold air filter of some type, all of which I drive hard and haven't had anything happen in years.
