The problem is battery energy density. This X5 goes a little more than 10 miles on battery. For a stay at home parent who makes only short trips to and from home it is an electric car. For someone with a long commute, especially without a charging station when at work, it is an underpowered gas car. The reality is this technology is in the early stages but being forced into production by regulators.

I bet it would not go very far on battery during Houston's hot and humid summer.
