I was in the same boat and settled on the X5 with third row seating. Its not nearly as bad as claimed, unless u really need the 7 seats most of the time and for really long trips. Otherwise its manageable for 4-5 adult sized and 2 shorter than average adults.
I almost pulled the trigger on the q7, but x5 beats in the looks department.
