I too have the Invisihitch installed on my x35d. the ONLY thing that can be seen without the receiver installed is the little cap over the wiring plug...and if you don't know what you're looking for you don't see it. it's definitely way less than the BMW set-up.
I'll do my first towing of the boat with the x5 in a couple of weeks and I'll do a writeup of how it performs at that time.
