Seems like BMW is becoming more like domestic brands by having to offer big discounts on their cars just to sell them. If they are already selling at invoice on a car that hasn't hit the showroom yet, what will they be going for 2-4years from now? That tells me they are overpricing them just so they can discount them up front. That plan hasn't worked for other companies in the past, like GM and Chrysler. They don't discount so much on MINI models, I'm surprised they do so much with their bread and butter cars like the 3 series and X5.
