There should be an "installation" paragraph in the owners manual...right below the removal instructions. Do you have an owners manual? If not, just type
BMW f15 X5 owners manual PDF (add your model year) into a google search box and you should get some results.
EDIT...yep, the owners manual give installation instructions...is that what you tried to do?
