Production of the second generation
BMW X6 (F16) has begun! Manufacturing for the all new X6 began yesterday (Friday) at the BMW plant in Spartanburg, South Carolina.
The first new BMW X6 off the line was a Sophisto Gray xDrive35i with a Cognac Black leather interior. This one isn't for the home market though, as it is destined for a BMW dealership in China.
Production of the first-generation X6 started in early 2008 at the plant. U.S. sales of the X6, between 2008 and 2014 (July), totaled more than 37,000 units. Since 2008, about 265,000 X6s have been produced for global customers.
The X6 joins the X3, X4 and X5 as the current models produced in the Spartanburg plant. The
upcoming BMW X7 has also been announced to be joining the lineup at Spartanburg.
In March, BMW announced an additional $1 billion investment for this plant. That will increase annual production capacity to 450,000 vehicles by the end of 2016.
