i think you may misread the headline of this thread, I don't think anyone here mention putting below the recommended octane in their vehicle. A question was asked to see if 89 was being used by other X35 owners and 91. Now I'm not taking your post personal but everything i buy i try and save a buck even when i purchase my vehicle and gas. I'm pretty sure when you purchase your vehicle you tried to save a buck off the MSRP unless you just have money falling out of your pockets. Anyway back to the fuel on your gas cap if you haven't seen it. 89 was recommend as the minimum so my question is do you work for BMW to say the least that if a person puts the minimum recommend fuel in 89 will hurt performance i don't think so, if they told you to put 95 in the tank if there was a 95 will you just because they told you, or you will go with lower octane recommended by BMW. I get it 93 = performance yadda ya i mean who are you racing, is your vehicle on a track being race yeah then i will go with the higher octane for the performance, now if its every day driving 89 won't hurt. My thing is if its mention that you can use 89 whats the problem BMW telling you that its safe to use 89 what the problem really, its not the matter someone being cheap cause we all have BMW`s. Lets face it the truth some places the gas prices are outrageous i use 93 since i had my vehicle, even during refueling i look for the nearest gas station for the cheapest 93 it may just be me but if a gas station near me has 93 for 4 bucks even I'm not going to the one up the block for 4.10. You can't get rich or save money by throwing every buck you have away or cents. Just my thoughts enjoy your vehicle.
