Happened to me as well but it did justify bimmer-techs apple carplay, MMI Prime which I love hands down over the idrive interface and can switch between the two with ease if need be. It can even run android (haven't tried but option is there) and screen mirroring, wireless too and for under a $700 and about 2 hours of plug and play and simple trim removal(video instructions are spot on) it was an easy install, and for those without eq like me it provides a customizable eq, music sounds way better than before. Also my mechanic updated my software which locked out my BM3 tune 🤬 I tried re-flashing and rendered the car inoperable, mechanic was kind enough to restore it for free. So I went with racechip rs, not quite the same but its a chip not a flash and combined with the XLR its enough. My BM3 license for the N55 is available if anyone is interested, just to pm me.
