I've sold EVCS's for some years, and I can tell you that good ones are not cheap...$500 would most likely be 25-30% of the value...
Installation may vary depending on the depth and length of the wiring required...sometimes they may have to run a 240 from your laundry room to the garage which is close, sometimes far...installation is also not cheap.
and some of those brands listed, you want to stay away from them as far as possible...
