And you can't do it that way because you are using gallon conversion (1 Imperial Gallon = 1.20095 US gallons) to calculate miles per gallon. If we did it the way you described, you would see a MPG figure of 22.5 mpg US instead of 17 MPG US on the 50i. There is no way the 35d is getting 38mpg combined. 28.7 is much more realistic and will am going to say the BMW will rate it 27-28 mpg combined with the EPA rating it 26-27 combined.

I dont want to start debate, but you got my post twisted around in so many ways
I never said "combined" mpg, i always used city/highway US standard
and 38mpg was plain conversion from your 45.6 number.
And if you look at my estimate in bold, i said 35 highway, which is realistic IMO
i think "combined" for 35d, should be around 27-28 US mpg
