You're the one saying the designers "took cues from" the Maxx. Design inspiration infers lineage. If we're tracing lineage, then the Maxx is certainly not an honest point to start for this particular design element. Not to mention, I'd eat my shoe if you presented any basis for the claim that the designers looked at the Maxx.
What you mean to say is, you don't like that line, and it also happens to remind you of the Malibu Maxx. That's a fair statement, but it's not at all what you inferred.

Cant express how disappointed with the exterior design i am..and thats coming from someone that really likes the first gen..exact same front as the X5..exact same back as the X4...so lame. First gen had a unique design all around.
But oh well..if they can sell the 5 GT they wont have a problem with that.
