I do concede that the M3 was at its time the most statistically defect free car in the BMW lineup. I read some breakdown of the JD Power initial quality survey of new car ownership (today it's a paid service to dive into the details), but the M3's numbers were in line with the entire Lexus lineup at the time, and was the most defect-free car in the entire BMW line up.
