You do not let the excess fluid run out, it's not a level plug. This is no different to overfilling your engine and will damage seals. The oil is a measured quantity as per instructions. This is how BMW designed the diff and is in the above instructions. It's probably better to not change the oil than do it and put in the wrong amount or type.
