Help purchasing 2014 X5 xDrive50i

I'm debating buying a 2014 X5 with 45k-55k miles on it but obviously out of warranty. Is there anything I should be wary of? I have seen issues on here before but should I definitely get a 3rd party warranty? Is it even worth getting this car if I plan on keeping the car for 2-4 years? I don't want huge maintenance costs/don't want it in the shop very often. I only drive 6 miles each direction to work but I do plan on taking some road trips with it throughout California.

It's between this, a 2013/2014 Porsche Cayenne GTS (which I also have a similar post on a porsche page asking the same questions), and just a 2016 Tahoe to keep it simple.

Any help would be greatly appreciated

If you're worried about reliability, I'd get the 35i

You’re in luck, you’ll not find a better loaded one than http://f15.bimmerpost.com/forums/sho....php?t=1494566

I wouldn’t own an X5 (any engine) without some form of extended warranty.

Why not get a cpo one? I just picked up a 2014 with cpo. Only has 1 year unlimited miles but I'm so glad it has warranty. The very next day I bought the car it is having suspension knocking sounds...control arms I am told.

The control arms are a known issue and there is a service bulletin for them. They can start making the noise out of nowhere. Not sure how to check to see if they are going bad though.

I've had quite a few little issues with my 2014 X5 50i (squeaks, rattles), but nothing major. It's a great SUV. I also looked at Cayenne's and for the money (used) I'd buy the X5. The Cayenne is great, and maybe more reliable, but with two kids the X5 is a better choice for me.
