Just Bought High Mile F15

Good day all, I’m new to the X5 forum just having picked up a 2016 X5 35i X this past week. I’m not new to BMW as you can see from my signature, but this is my first X BMW. The X5 was from a local dealer who took it on trade with high miles. It has 97k (which I imagine is one of the higher F15s on here) but I paid only $23k for it. The dealer had it for over 60 days and was about to send it to auction. Those miles scaring every prospective buyer off I imagine. I’m a fairly accomplished mechanic and have owned 20+ BMWs so I don’t get spooked by a high mile example. The X5 is actually in really good shape and you can tell it was a single driver blasting some highway miles for work and nothing else. I personally prefer this type of used car over say a 50k example that drove a total of 4 miles each day to drop 2 kids at school. I was daily driving a LS460 which is a damn nice car, but I always get drawn back to BMW.

I’ve ordered spark plugs, air & cabin filters, front & rear diff fluid, transfer case fluid, coolant, and a transmission filter/fluid kit. I’ll do oil/filter and brake fluid as well. All of that only cost $431 in parts for DIY; I can’t imagine the dealer bill for that work.

I look forward to contributing on the mechanical side for the F15 and chatting with you all in future threads!

Welcome to forum they're indeed a great bargain used and even better when you can work on them which will further drive the cost of ownership down. It Looks like you've got your maintenance list sorted out which is about time when some dealers do a full service at 100k miles just besure you're using correct spec items, i'll list it below

Engine Oil:, BMW LL-01
Spark Plug: OEM BOSCH ZR5TPP33S (For 60k miles application)
Transmission: (ZF 8 Hp lifeguard),
Transfer case: (Shell TF-0870 or BMW PN#83-22-2-409-710,
Differential: GL5 gear oil (I use Liqui Moly 75W-90)
Brake fluid: DOT 4 low viscosity
Coolant: G48 ie BMW blue coolant

All of that checks. I'll be using Redline 75w90 for the diffs and Liquimoly ATF for the tranny, which is a ZF8 substitute. I ordered the Shell transfer case fluid as it was much cheaper than BMW.

Thanks for the welcome, I'll post up some pictures once the car is cleaned up. I'm also a detailer so will need to do a full paint correction and coating. Apparently I'm the first person to ever leave with a filthy car from this dealer; they were pretty upset. When I was doing paperwork the SM said I'll take it back to "detail" for you. I said no thanks, please leave it alone!

This is the option breakdown; pretty light on the packages which is just fine with me. I'm missing comfort access which I've had for the past 5 years but I'll get over it. I'd prefer a different color than black, white, silver, grey, but sadly on the used BMW market there isn't much else to choose from. The dark graphite looks good on the F15. (I'd love a British Racing Green example with cinnamon leather!).

I agree with your logic. I'd rather take a higher mileage highway driven car vs a all city miles car.

my X5 is the same sophistograu (A90) its a great color , in shadows its looks black, in the sunlight at angles it's dark grey with purplish hue and in artificial white led light grey its graphite grey that's probally it's called sophisticated grey.

P.S. Didn't know you're in OKC area!

Great buy. I purchased a 2015 w/. 120k. One owner. highway miles. Great vehicle. Purchased for less than $18k. . I have changed valve cover and gasket. New battery. Oil filter housing gasket. New plugs, coils, filter, pan gasket, belt and tensioners. All parts purchased from FCP euro. Valve covers, battery and belts performed by BMW as part of the deal to purchase vehicle.

18? Damn. Makes me wonder how much I would get if I wanted to sell my x5 with 112k miles.
