F15 X5 closed room viewing pictures and impressions
I had the chance today to see the new X5 at a BMW organized closed room viewing:
The car shown is the 3D in Sparkling Brown used in the BMW official pictures, and is still a pre-production model. And seeing some of the damage, it has been around quite a few places... first impressions: - the nose looks a bit more aggresive. The front is a bit more square and the lines in the hood make it look more streamlined. -Sideways I don't see a lot of difference. The roof seems to come a bit further and the "blades" (or what do you call them ?) around the rear window actually only stick out a little bit. - the rear is indeed looking more X3'ish, but it looks good. I do think it will look even better in M sport version. - Dash is a blend of the new 5 series (buttons layout, hud, dials) and the newer cars with the connected drive screen on the dashboard instead of in the dashboard. Very nice -didn't like the grey leather dashboard -you lose a lot of space in the trunk with the space reserved for the 3rd row of seats. I had the impression the trunk is less high than on the E70 (see the picture-sorry there was a battery charger in it) -Seats are difficult to judge. You could see some damage and the leather had come loose in some places. Assaid, the preprod model has suffered...and I never did like the perforated leather... |

Wow. Thanks for posting. Just on time. I wanted to place the order next week with Sparkling Brown Exterior. Haven't seen any realtime pics. This post is really helpful.
What's your opinion on the color when you first saw them in person? My options: Sparking Brown Biege Interior With Dakota Leather Drivers Assistance 1 and 2 Premium Package xLine...I think the xLine really compliments with Sparkling Brown Color. May be Cold weather package. |

The sparkling brown looks very nice, but the color is quite dark. We did have natural light in the viewing room, and it was sunny, but light came from the roof, so you don't really see the effect of direct sunlight on the sides.
I even tought it was a variant of black when I saw it first. Definitely a very nice color, so if you like it I wouldn't hesitate. |

Thanks, it's nice to see some detailed pictures of the interior. I like it, but I'm also even more convinced that this is more an E70 "Super" LCI than a truly new model. It won't surprise me if several part numbers are the same, or are at least interchangeable.
Don't get me wrong, I love my E70 and will certainly consider an F15. I am glad that they chose to abandon the porky F01/F10/etc. architecture, and can only imagine what a fat bastard the F15 would have been had it been used there! |

I hope That I'm wrong on my conclusion regards to 2014 F15 model, after reading and reviewing all photos I did arrive with answer that is a last LCI makeover till real F15debiuet as 2015 model to compete with MB GL series and Audi Q7. Overall geometry and shape is basically is the same accept front, side and rear sheet metal changes compared to older ladies hefty makeup to look younger. There is no car manufacturer producing a replacement model without presenting on auto shows to public to make them put on hold future purchase from competition. F15 need to be bigger to accommodate a REAL 3rd row seats

Thanks for sharing your great pictures, nice shots!

Although the new X5 f15 does use some carryover elements from the old E70, this is a "new" car, it's not just a marginal facelift or restyling. This car will be around for some time, predictably around 7 years as it's custom for Bmw cars. You are right - however - when you say that this is not an entirely new car, as for example the E70 was to the older E53. The new F15 does share some main components with the E70, like for example the main frame: wheelbase is exactly 2933mm for both cars, and also front and rear track width are the same at 1644mm - 1650mm respectively. You can look at this car like a very deeply revised car when compared to the old E70, where most of the elements not directly related to the main chassis have been changed and redesigned from scratch. I hope this helps. Take care, Alessandro |

Eu001939-
Thamk you for the pics. I have an xline on order. My only concern was the silver running boards. Not fond of them on the previous model. Can you comment at all on how they looked? In the pictures it appears they are much more narrow than in the past and possibly just an insrt on the mini plastic trim the previous x5 has just below the doors? Any imput is appreciated. This is the first pic i have ssen w the running boards. Thanks. |

The running boards are indeed quite narrow, but as this is a pre-production model, I'm not sure these are the final ones. In my opinion too narrow to be of any real use and just there for the looks.
My wife likes them, I don't. |

One last question. How did the space grey rims look in person? They are the main driver for me getting the xline. They look sharper than the msport li e in pics. Any comments? Thx a ton. |

Thanks for the post. I ordered M package with my X5. I really wonder how the new X5 with M package will look like in real view! I didn't see the running board on M Package so I would look definetly different too.
