Surround View - Intermittent Fault
From new, occasionally (about once a month or so) the Surround View hasn't displayed when reverse is selected and instead the screen goes black. Rear camera won't select either, and the fix, in true IT style, has been to turn the car off and turn it back on and all is ok.
Raised with the dealer and they said BMW know about the problem and have a fix via a software update. So last week I had winter wheels fitted and asked the dealer to update the software at the same time. However, it would seem that the software update doesn't fix the fault with Surround View. Instead, what it has done is disable Surround View from appearing automatically when reverse is selected and the option to have Surround View as the default view has been disabled in iDrive. Surround view has to be manually selected from the iDrive menu each time reverse is selected. It's only a turn and a click but it means BMW have taken a frustrating, intermittent fault and turned it into a permanent peeve. Went back to the dealer, who went back to BMW and the dealer has been told that BMW know about the fault and the software update is the fix and this is now being applied to new vehicles leaving the factory. I asked if the fix can be reversed out but BMW have said no. So two questions really:

Very rarely (like you said - about once a month). The screen doesn't go completely black though, instead the usual warning triangle appears. Didn't bother going to the dealer for this just yet since these ... here in banana land are still figuring WTF to do with my door locks...v
