These are some expensive SAV's!!!
So I live on a hill. A large steep hill that must be traversed in order for me to get home. On 12/14 last year we get some snow, I start going down, and then the sliding began. I had no chance, it was either plow into 3 cars or turn into the pole. I opted for the pole. The result is the attached picture and $29,800 worth of damage! It's been over two months at this point and I'll hopefully be getting her back tomorrow (with lots of new goodies). A word to the wise, all wheel drive means nothing when you are running 20x10/11 inch wheels and summer tires. Hopefully new pics soon.

Ouch! At least you kept the damage to yourself. What tires are those?

Sorry to hear, but you def made the right choice.
This is also why I don't understand when people say AS tires are fine in the snow. They may be acceptable for getting around in mainly straight lines, but throw in a little incline and/or need to take some evasive action and they turn into slicks. Worse as you go 20"+ in wheel size. I'm sure people will chime in otherwise, but I stand by my statement. ps can't see the pic

I believe so too.
and to add to what P1et is getting at, the P Zeros are max performance summer tires...not all seasons. Not that all seasons could have prevented that slide on a very steep hill..but the chances would have been better.

Glad to read no one was injured but next time around buy a set of proper winter/snow tires... $1800 would've saved you $30k+.

Exact reason why snow tires are made. Even with snow tires, there is no guarantee you will stop depending on the incline and amount of ice but I have had a close save a few times where all seasons might have meant hitting something. In fact I was going around 15 through a parking lot yesterday with black ice and 35F temperature and someone just walked into an intersection with a baby stroller (stroller was skidding with wheels up) and I braked and slid too for a short distance. Did I want to be on all seasons in this situation, absolutely not.
OP - kudos on making the right call. As a former 14 year Boston resident, I can tell you its worth it first hand to invest in better rubber for the winter.

But why would you spend all that money on cosmetics (grill, M50d fins, side vents, splitter, etc) before relevant ‘performance’ parts? |

So here you go: front bumper, left headlight, hood, left fender and fender flair, possibly bent left lower control arm (if wheel took a hit too). AW 300 paint, alignment and labor. Probably around $8-9k top (I'm too lazy to google it, but all oem parts from bmw would be around $4-5k max and the rest $4k is labor). Question is who took the rest of $20k? Rhetorical question of course. Insurance companies and auto shops - that triple and quadruple every part and labor in their invoice books to make a fortune out of a relatively simple fender bender. It is how it is - can't fight them or change rules - just need to accept it and get used to it.
P.S. The work needed to put it back is about 20hours max + 3 days for paint job - what they were doing 2 months is beyond me |

Headlight $1380 (or $2500 if LED) Hood $980 Side panel (fender) $475 Fender flair (primed) $123 M Sport bumper (primed) $923 Total: $5k (with LED lights) or $3881 with Xenon Now I'm sure I need to add airbags (if some of them even deployed - doesn't look like that from the picture) and/or some fasteners etc. - but I'm just saying $28k is still ridiculous and mainly is due to well known shenanigans (basically someone putting a lot of money into their pockets) |

Sorry for your trouble, OP. Glad you’re ok.
I live low in the snow belt but still put winters on my cars. It’ll look like a waste of money right up until the moment they pay for themselves. |

No way to tell beyond surface damage from a pic, DuSh. I'm sure there was more damage once they got it on a lift. Suspension components, etc. perhaps.
Sure, prices can vary, but in general, insurance adjusting is no longer an art. They all use the same system/software. I'm sure OP will tell us more.
