How did it do? I am considering getting back into sledding. I used to tow a 7x16 with a 350 and a 150. Sometimes on slick roads the trailer was "driving" the 150 a few times. The 350 pulled like it was nothing. I do know that my X5 tows my 6x12 cargo trailer MUCH better than my 150. But I am concerned about the weight and wide tires on my X5 50i. Did you get towing mirrors?

Yes, I know it's an old thread, but I think it's appropriate to post towing pics here.
Took my sick E70 and dropped it off for some diagnosis as to why it has an intermittent "Limp mode" issue. This invisihitch was actually on the E70. I transferred it to my newly acquired F15 35D. Fits perfectly. Wiring harness is different of course. The E70 diesel weighs approx 5000 pounds, plus 2000 for the trailer. making a total weight of 7000. Still under the Euro spec rating of 7700 pounds. You could tell there was something being towed, but she handled it like a champ.

Should be a piece of cake!!!! The E 39 weighs approx 3700 to 4060 pounds depending on which engine it has. Plus the empty trailer weight of course.

According to my careful calculations and using my shoes to measure the length and width, I was well within the limits +/- a couple feet, and waited with calling for an escort until I had dropped off the boat. I believe that's proper etiquette

Boat Launch Spring 2019
Compared to some of you others - towing our relatively small load. No problem for the 40e.

2015 x35d towing 2019 Winnebago Micro Minnie, 22'
Hi all,
New to Bimmerpost, but have a 2015 x35d, bought for towing a travel trailer. Decided that the trailer would be a 2019 Winnebago Micro Minnie (murphy bed model), 22' long, dry weight ~3700-lbs, GVW of 7000. Would love to have said it was a 23' Airstream, but they're 3-4 times the price! Added a Stealth Hitch with a 2-5/16" ball on their 2" rise ball mount (U7S). Not using any anti-sway bars or weight-distribution hitch - just added a Tekonsha Prodigy Wireless Electronic Brake Controller (90250), and Voyager wireless trailer backup camera system (WVHS43, for which the trailer is prewired). So far, have done some short shakedown trips, including 300 miles mixed secondary roads and interstates. Heading out for 2500+ miles soon. Preliminary mileage dropped from 31+mpg highway to ~25, but will have better data after this trip. Drives, handles, and stops easily. Only unforeseen problem so far, of all things, was the wireless camera system. If you're don't already know, BMW has used PWM (phase width modulation) for some time. Since my original wiring powered the camera from the trailer marker lights - which were in turn powered through the 7 pin cable from the X5 - that power source had PWM active. Unfortunately it caused erratic camera behavior (regular dropping/regaining signal) - either from the 12V supplied, or from interfering with the wireless signal to the paired wireless monitor in the tow car. It was cured by wiring the camera's power directly back to the trailer battery. PWM interference in to some wireless devices is a known but seemingly obscure issue. Apparently some new high end pickup trucks, designed for towing, are now incorporating it - and they're starting to see these same issues from time to time. May have more to report in a month or so when I return... Last edited by n1klook; 07-13-2019 at 04:07 PM.. Reason: add photo |

Aside from gas mileage, the 500 mile trip over the WV mountains was a breeze.
