what is the benefit to OEM wiring harness with module or basic wiring kit?

Search. Its been talked about before.

What are you pulling? Do you need trailer brakes or is it a small utility trailer and you just need lights?

German cars can also be finicky with electronics. Are you a confident DIY guy if you go the universal route?

I did OEM for the module and harness and while a bit more $ was clean and straight foward to get done.

The 4 pin for the trailer brake package may be pre wired already in your trunk fuse outlet. Decode your VIN and check for the prep package.

You might have a fuse blown or unplugged? This is out of my realm.
