You always could just remove the brakes all together and let wind slow you down. That'll save weight on a 3T car.

Its a big difference per wheel and the unsprung mass will affect handling tremendously. I like how light the front end of my car is now and will wait for a lighter aftermarket rotor option.

Meanwhile, ill just enjoy the wind stopping power!!

Recently put some 22s on for summers (keeping the stock 20s as winters) and i really need to fill up the space in there with some of these.

My OEM brakes pads are coming up for replacement soon (43,000miles) so I'm thinking this might be a good opportunity to upgrade!!

I just installed my 22s too and the brakes do look a little sad now

I told myself I wouldn't spend any more money....we'll see how long I can handle looking at the little brakes.

You're not gonna get lighter at 395x36mm unless you go CC. Now The F85 front rotors are "essentially" two piece rotor and You can pick up a true set of two piece from racing brake but it's gonna cost you up front but they do weigh 16lbs less per rotor. And unless you're tracking your X5 you're not gonna convince me you would feel the "handling difference" on a 3T truck on your local on ramp.

So if anyone is worried that it may increase rotational mass - it's all good
Plus Dush says here that there isn't any weight gain compared to stock so where do you get that they're 12kg more per wheel?

After you install it, please give us some input about the experience.
So quick input. The brakes did not feel like they have enough "bite" at slow speeds, so much that I went back to the dealer. Mechanic (good one) tested it and said that he did some bleeding the brakes (oil) not sure what that was but now i can feel it more. Also he proved to me SW was updated for the brakes. If you press hard car stops quite fast . Anyways, in the looks department is more where i can say they look abs amazing especially with F85 rotors. To all who wanna do this please do it all the way with rear rotors. It just looks phenomenal. Looking back now it was mega expensive but this mod will keep me happy for a while and help me restrain myself for buying a new car (because i got kinda bored before recent mods). Cheers and thanks to all in this thread

Just got the F85 brake kit in the mail today from Germany. Had to pay a $40 import fee. That was a first for me. Anyway they're heavy as F so will take pics and post once I open them up. Still need to order new front rotors. And will do once I'm back in town after the weekend.

If $40 for front and rear F85 rotor, tax is not high.

I don't think it was. Just have never paid one before on stuff from out of country but it's usually China I guess. But I did get some euro mirrors from Lithuania a few months back and no issues. Either way. 3 boxes and 30lbs a piece at least. All 4 calipers. Brake pads and rear rotors.

Are your rear "F85 kit" calipers the same as the calipers that come with the f15 m performance brake retrofit kit? They appear to be the same. Thanks. D

Pretty sure they're the same. The only difference between E70 M and F85 should be the front 6pot vs 4pot. And the rotors on all 4 corners.

In fact, I believe the rear calipers are the same even on the F15 50i and that they just need to be attached to the outer attachment points on the hubs to accommodate the larger 385mm rotors. So I think that all you get for the rear calipers in the MP retro kit is the same ones, just painted blue. Not sure though.

Is that a different caliper al together?

I was under the impression that all I need is only the carrier.

I would think and hope the caliper is larger to hold a larger pad to actually take advantage of the much larger rotor but I wouldn't put it past the weasels at BMW to find a way to save a buck.

Quick review contd... So drove the car in Germany and felt the need to write more about the brakes (at higher speeds). Car brakes a lot better and under heavy breaking does not "steer" on the side at all, does not "stray" left or right. Hope you know what I mean, I think that 30d orig brakes were good but this is an all together different feel. Brakes feel better and better and once in the rain I had to break and my probably wrong reaction was to brake when driving into a lot of water on the highway. The car remained stable I could tell that ABS chimed in... Still the car remained stable. Off topic, but will still share is the power kit for 30d (unfort not available OEM in US) is really starting to pay off, engine's performance is way better on the highway (to be fully appreciated in Germany). This is my 2nd F15 30d, but before that I had an E71 40d... F15 with 30d engine with power kit feels closer to the E71 40d.

F15 owners all stare at them brakes and of course like it. There are a lot of F15 in Germany. Off topic, saw gray E46 M3 crashed on the highway (in the rain). What a beautiful car, felt sorry for the owner (standing on a safe distance starring at his car) as the Polizei was taking photos and isolating the accident area.

To conclude, this thread motivated me again to get those brakes but I do not think I actually managed to do it on budget .Zero regrets especially after confirming highway speeds and braking. Cheers

Brake smell?

After driving there is a smell outside of the car. Could it be the brakes (its a new smell). The guy whi installed f85 rotors did not really inspire confidence. I just dont want to worry...Driving 2017 30d.
