You will definitely have fun with a manual.

A lot of young people don't know how to drive a manual. Never too late to learn. Again.

You learned how to drive stick on a car in your inventory? Ouch!

I pity the fool who bought that car.

So far this is what I've found:

1. https://chicago.craigslist.org/chc/c...542847636.html. (this looks really nice. If I can get it down to like $900~ or so. Brake pads and rotors for front and rear are like $200 on rockauto).

And,to throw some salt(road salt that is lol)on the wound..the roads are super smooth down this way with no potholes to speak of.
I grew up 50mi North of NYC and the potholes in midtown and surrounding areas where like small swimming pools;hit one doing 30mph and you're replacing a tire at bare minimum, and most likely a very expensive wheel too

You weren't living in the City in December of 1972 or 1989? It was more than a bit icy in '72 (buses attempting to climb steep hills, anyone? ), and our non-frost free backyard hose bib gave up in the '89 freeze. That resulted in a huge water bill. Fortunately, the water department forgave the excess "usage".

Winter is not so much an issue here is SC, but keeping miles off the M2 has become a concern. Just purchased an Audi SQ5 with 124k on it after having it checked out thoroughly. Thinking is if I don’t want to drive it at all, I’ll just pick the M2. Plus some practicality and cheap enough to not have a car payment. So not really a beater, but an alternative.

Picked it up today while the All New M2 YouTubers hit. Just a coincidence.

We'll see. But I'll take 10% over sticker on a $30k vehicle over 10% over for a $90k vehicle any day of the week. Though obviously, MSRP or below would be more ideal.

About 10 years ago, I negotiated an extra $1,000 discount on a used truck during the test drive, when I realized that we were several miles from the dealership and the sales dude didn't know how to drive a manual transmission. The shame of having a customer bail mid-drive would have been enough, but then add onto it the shame of having to call for a tow or someone else to drive it back to the dealership because he couldn't drive a manual gearbox would have surely lost him his man card at work.....

Yeah, that would be embarrassing.

Was thinking, the OP learning how to drive a manual on one of their new cars for sale sounds a little... precarious.

But then I wouldn't be surprised at anything done to those cars when no one is looking.

I guess that's what a new car warranty is for. lol

2018 X1, she plowed through two snowfalls that exceeded 12"-14" each last year. Hopefully we don't get that again.

We're in a global recession. If you have disposable income for a winter car go for it. The rest of us can't afford that.

Wow you REALLY meant beater... I don't know if I'd even want to sit in one of these out of fear of contracting a disease...

My idea of beater is something in the $15k range..

I remember the '89 freeze well. Our pool froze over and my daughter could walk across the spa.

Why does a beater have to be cheap? I drive my i8 the whole winter, but would never do so with my E30 Convertible. Not even in the rain 🤪

And it doesn't cost extra. Win-win.
