After the fact. In fact my car has third row seats AKA there is no space for a spare, but I put it on my trunk mat, no issues. If you don't have third row seats, it will fit under the trunk cover in the big round cubby.

It doesn't come balanced since it's a spare donut, but I recommend getting it balanced.

Rolling circumference I calculated is only a couple mm off from the full size tire, so no issues for long distance use.
