I'd like to resurrect this thread.
I've been emailing Jason @ Bavsound for almost a year, but now there's been no response. The last I heard from him about four months ago was that they had to go back to the drawing board and redesign the F15 speakers they were developing. Not had any subsequent responses from them, but they now do show the same Bimmer-Tech amp as an offering for our cars on their website. My standard speaker system (the one below HK) is in dire need of a decent upgrade. More painful experience for me as my other car has a factory Dynaudio system that is quite good. The question is, can I just get Focal speakers and upgrade to the Bimmer-Tech amp and be done with it? Some of you on this thread are doing very cool stuff with crossovers in the door panel, but now I'm lost on options. All help appreciated. |

Well.... This was a timely post. Just received an email from BAV that the speaker upgrade package for the F15/16 is now available. Enter in code F15F16LAUNCH at checkout to receive a $100 discount. Speakers will ship mid-July....

Frankly, I really like the sound of the HK once I changed out the stock woofers to the Ghost Woofers from BAV: Much tighter bass and nice, punchy mids. The high's are still a bit harsh, but tolerable. It's not necessarily the upgrade cost, but rather the pain in the ass it will be to remove every door panel to install the speakers. I think I'll sit on the sidelines and wait to see how much of an improvement others think this upgrade makes from the HK system.

I had them installed in my F06 650GC w/ HK. The upgrade is noticeable.
The only difference between the F15/F16 X5/X6 F85/F86 X5M/X6M setup is just the mounting bracket. So sound wise, is no doubt will be better. Quote:
I am in process of listing them on my website. In the mean time, let me know if you guys want to order them. I will do a few sets stocking order.

My buddy has Focal desktop speakers. They are quite nice. I'm very much interested in this setup for my car.

And the center speaker is just removed the cover. Not sure on the HK optioned car though. Woofer is the same for all BMW.

Bavsound vs B&O
Finally Bavsound released the speakers upgrades for F15. The website says 700 USD to replace the HIFI speakers with 5 mid range and 2 tweeters. 700USD is about the same as B&O speakers. Any idea if B&O or Bavsound upgrade is a better deal?

So far, everything sounds meh, and no one from BimmerTech has responded to numerous emails regarding specific files/config of the amp for this specific setup. I'll let you know how it all comes together - if it ever does. |

I agree with you that the setup files loaded in the Bimmertech amp are not the best and could not get other files from them, so I spent some time tuning it myself. I can share my setup file with you, but our speakers don't match 100% and I also muted the center channel as it was messing with the imaging and you may not like that. I strongly suggest you buy a test microphone and a XLR to USB preamp and do it yourself, this way you can tailor it to your liking. You can find both on Amazon for a little over $100. Recommendations are on the DSP guide from Audiotec Fischer. Tune the car in your garage or any other quiet spot, then take it for a drive and see how you like it. I made a couple tweaks to the EQ's to compensate for the road noise and I am a happy camper. If you decide to do this I recommend you use software version 3.40a or the latest one on their website instead of v2.93 that Bimmertech recommends. It has better features and it is 100% compatible with the amp you have. It will update the firmware on the unit, which can be reverted if you wish to go back to 2.93. I asked the Audiotec Fischer techs and you can use the PP82DSP from Bimmertech but you have to save first the file with the 2.93 software. Later you can load the file again with the 3.40a tool. I zeroed out all the values and stared from scratch. |

Hey! LatinBimmer. I like your setup and wants to try the same for my car. How did you wire the tweeter since there wasn't one before? Where did you buy the HK center channel and tweeter. Thanks.

Hi,
I'm new to the board, and the owner of a two week old, well optioned X5, except for base audio. Apparently the person who ordered the car I bought off the lot thought everything was more important than good sound.... I've done some research and pretty much settled settled on upgrading as follows. I'll swap out the OEM subs for the Rockford Fosgate T3BMW3's and replace the front door 10CM speakers with Focal ISN100's. I'm leaning toward replacing the rear door speakers as well. I have a friend with a 3D printer, and we plan to fabricate X5 door mounts to fit the Focal mids. A member on one of the other forums who fabricated a wood door mount was kind enough to send me his oem speaker. I will post pics as things progress. For the moment, that leaves the 10CM center / dash speaker unresolved. As some have reported, on the base audio system, they omit the tweeter. However the dash mount is a BMW standard. Possible replacement speakers include the Focal IFBMWS and the Rockford Fosgate T3BMW3. Unfortunately both of these component speakers are sold in pairs. I found an Ebay vendor offering exceptionally good pricing on Focal. If anyone is interested in upgrading their dash speaker and wants to go 50 /50 on a pair of these speakers, please PM me and we can coordinate purchase thru the vendor. Otherwise, I think I've got a plan. If not, I'll be shopping for an amp.... Comments ? |

Can I salvage any of these for an F15?
Hi all,
hoping you guys can give me some advice. I bought the below set up for my E93 a fair few years ago and it transformed the audio system. Now I'm close to buying a F15 50i with HK but in the test drive didn't like the sound of it at all. I'll test the DSP settings shared in another post to see if it helps or not. I'll be looking to sell my E93 soonish so wanted to know if I can use any of these in the F15 Now to the point. Here's the set up I've got now: Gladen one (Mosconi) 120.4 DSP & Amp it's a 4 channel amp and DSP Gladen ONE 201 BMW EXTREME speakers Semi-active System New woofer basket Slimmer woofer, also P&P for F 10/11.. Grill to protect the woofer 25 mm silk dome tweeter 4” shallow midrange 8” shallow woofer 2x 150/100 Watt (mid/high), 2x 225/150 Watt (woofer) 3 Ohm impedance (mid/high), 2 Ohm impedance (woofer) Based on what I've read, the mids won't fit in F15 but what about tweeters and underseat subs? Would I be able to add the amp to the current HK amp, open to any mix and match set ups that might improve on the HK As you can see I don't know much about this, so if this is a fool's errand let me know |
