Latest update from dealership:
"We spoke to BMW and actually the delay in 2016’s is due to the government wanting all manufacturers to delay new model year diesels so it is neither dealer nor BMW Canada at fault over this. They are merely complying with them." Thoughts? |

Does anyone know if Mercedes is selling 2016 Diesel right now in Canada with clear delivery dates?

My brother in law is receiving his 2016 GL 350 diesel on Wednesday this week, so I believe Mercedes is definitely selling/delivering diesel still. I did speak to someone @ VW and he is not selling ANY VW diesels right now, with hopes of them becoming available in the first quarter of 2016.

Are there any updates on this for the US market? I was going to place an order for an 35d tomorrow but if the wait time is unknown, or 8+ weeks, that will impact my decision.

If you've noticed, they've recently opened up shop with 2016 diesel on US site....which wasn't there 2 weeks ago...so that should mean something. Also, I assume if based in SlammedR8's comment, VW is that optimistic, then it should be a walk in the park for the rest. By the way don't forget, this sensitivity only applies to purchase or financing IMO... If you are leasing...forget about all this and order yours yesterday...diesel is the way to go and X5 diesel is rock solid. |

Got an email today that the $1,500 option credit for a 2016 X5 is now available on the 35d (it wasn't in November). Looks like BMW is planning on selling the diesel in the US this month.

No January Production
My sales rep in Calgary confirmed today that there will be no January production month X5 diesels built - at least not for delivery to Canada.
The reason has not been very clear. Something about "China" - believe it or not! Doesn't everyone blame China for everything these days? Any intel on when production will restart? |

Seems like it won't be here for their Q1... Makes me wonder though...as US has been more stringent than Canada and yet they are accepting diesel orders for the month of January?! |

hmm maybe I should have taken the 2015 X5d haha. Just kidding, I want to see how this plays out and I just picked up a set of winter tires for the 535xi I am driving (my mother in law's car). I will re-evaluate in the early spring!

We decided to pick up the 35i at hand...I don't want to put my wife in an awkward situation with no definitive timeline...With winter ahead... Plus, based on our mileage and gas consumption, it will take her almost 3 years to break even on price difference vs. diesel...and with all the speculations going on....no thx! |

I still doubt that we could get a better deal from other diesels just because of VW's fiasco... BMW Canada has just increased its base on diesel by an extra $300 on top of the previous $500 increase over 2015 model. So now they will be charging $67,800 for 2016 instead of planned$67,500. Compared to 2015 at $67,000. |

I suspect that BMW want to deliver 35ds to the U.S. Before Canada because they make more $ there. So they'll fill all of the back orders and then release to canada. I am sure they are taking a hit on earnings so they have some catching up to do. That most likely pushes it to feb/March for canada.
Well that's what I would do if I was at the helm of BMW. |
