So far is your X5 SUVs capable of traversing snowy streets?
Snow blizzard pounds north east states. How's your X5 working so far?
Hope everyone is doing ok. |

lots of outcry about what we didn't get here in NY (including myself, initially, as I skipped a business trip to stay home with my family for this storm), but a quick look at what is going on in New England tempers any upset feelings about the inaccuracy of weather forecasts pretty quickly. We dodged a bullet.
I do wish I had gotten to test out the new winter tires on the X5, but considering what could have come with it, I'm not that sad I didn't…. Stay warm everyone. |

Mine is very drifty. I run it on Pirelli Scorpion 19"s and I have to be really gentle on the gas pedal. Which is fun most times, unless at steep and narrow hills. Other than that, the torque vectoring that comes with DHP is tremendous and with the xDrive makes it a monster uphill. Just have to be gentle when turning on narrow spots.
Downhill it feels heavy and goes sideways for no apparent reason. Overall it feels much better than my 550xi, but downhill it's worse than my wife's Hyundai Santa Fe or my previous Toyota Land Cruiser (which by the way IMHO was much heavier than the bimmer and still went downhill without slipping as much).

"You may find it useful to briefly activate DTC under the following special circumstances: • When driving in slush or on uncleared, snow-covered roads. • When rocking the vehicle or driving off in deep snow or on loose surfaces. • When driving with snow chains." But I agree with the Land Cruiser. I have a Lexus LX which is basically the same car, and even without winter tires it is a monster in the snow. |

Absolutely stunning car on slippery, icey roads!
Tires are studded Nokian Hakapelliita 8. Amazing winter tires! Also the adaptive headlights are flawless in the dark! |

How are they for road noise? i was thinking of getting an M3, but I would need something like the Haka's for the winters.

They are very very good. I feel 100% safe even at quite high speed on icey roads. Studded Hakka 8 or ContiIceContact are the only options for me, living in the north with a country house right in the middle of nowhere! |

I have the 20" option that come with performance tires and they have been the worst thing I have used in snow... Can't wait to get them switched to all seasons.

+1 on this when driving in the snow and ice in The Netherlands last week. I've ordered the BMW 20" off-set winter wheel and tyre (Pirelli snow and ice)package at great expense purely for visual effect....!!!!! My E70 X5 ran on 18" winters and I was never happy with the look even though the tyres were great (they won't fit my X6 - disc too big).

In eastern Long Island NY, we got close to 2 feet of snow. My F15 was a big disappointment for me. I have 19" Michelin Latitude Tour HP “All Season” tires. Car was very drifty on cleared snow road. The worst part, I was stuck on MY driveway where there was 5-6 inches snow. Yes, I turned off the DSC. I rocked quite a few before I was free from the snow. I had Honda Pilot before F15 and 5-6 inches of snow was a joke for Pilot. I had Michelin tires on the pilot as well (Not sure exact model but I believe it was latitude also).
I did not buy separate winter tire set because the Michelins are supposed to be “All Season”. Now I am debating to purchase a winter set. I have few questions; 1- Anybody else have experience with Michelin Latitude Tour tires in snow? 2- I saw some discussion about purchasing the rims with the second set tires vs replacing tires on the same rim twice a year. What is your opinion on using the same rim but replace the tire. |

I also live in Long Island....Pirelli 19" Scorpion all weather were pretty decent with smart driving. Up and down hills no issue. (better up hill)

My 19'' Vredestein Wintrac Extreme tires performed well in snow yesterday.
