BMW towing mirrors dont seem to fit?

Hi

I know this isn't very interesting! Ordered BMW genuine accessory part, but when they came they did not seem to fit!

They appear to have no protection on the claws which retain the mirror, and it would just scratch the mirror housing!

By saying that I looked at the instructions and they appear to fit at the base of the mirror, but I have seen a picture of the mirrors fitting on the top of the mirror on this forum.

I know its a long shot but can any share their experience.

My other X5 is an E70 and the towing mirrors are great, but eventually will get shut of that one and have to use the F15.

Were you ever able to figure this out?

I need to find a mirror that works and wont damage the standard mirror. I am considering an Aero 2 mirror.
