Seating:
You don't "slide" into it; you climb in and out of it (I'm > 6' / 1.82m). With the seat in the lowest position, I still feel I'm sitting high and tall, which I personally don't like.

Braking: definitely feel its weight; does it inspire confidence? For me no, in fact it probably triggers me to be overly cautious.

Handling: feels like a boat and a bit floaty.

Torque: meh

Overall, very difficult for me to "engage" with the vehicle; it lends itself to laid back, zoned out type of driving style, which is kind of boring, no?

I can't imagine what a ubiquitous non-BMW SUV must feel like.
I hear what you are saying but you really cant compare the driving experience to your M3.

As others have said get into many of the other "SUVs" and compare those. Thats where it makes a huge difference. I dont like them either, I actually prefer driving my E38 to our X5, but when I drive the X5 and drive most other SUVs thats not a Porsche its like going from a 3 series to a bus.

For what it is the X5 is a really nice handling SUV and overall I am glad we chose it.

If you want to really hate the genre take a spin in an RX or an RDX or Ford Explorer.

I bought my wife the first year e70, 2007, X5 with the N52k and I love it. We looked forever for an X3 but couldn't find one so settled for the X5, which IS big, but beautiful and fun to drive. I also have an e36 M3 and e90 335i for reference to the fun to drive stmt.

The thing is Yeru was driving a loaner which probably was a basic X5 with standard suspension. If he had an opportunity to drive a X5M or a X5 with Dynamic Handling Pkg and or Adaptive M suspension then I'm willing to bet his short review of the X5 would be different. I'm pretty sure lot's of M3/M4 and in general 3 series guys get a basic X5 loaner and think it is a huge boat

I love the X5. Handles and brakes better than any SUV I can think of. Great highway cruiser, comfortable. Nice features. Drive it when I need some room and trips.

My other car is a Shelby GT 350)

Mine is my favorite and most fun BMW so far. Owned or test drove almost all of the lineup and this one does it all.

Hahaha... Sarcam? I had an X5M and out of all the vehicles I have owned or driven it was the worst vehicle to drive in Manhattan/Traffic. It was one of the deciding factors on going down one rung to 50i.

same here. I have a M3 and X5. The X5 is my preferred city car. Hell with cameras, it's easier to park than my M3.

My X5 (E70) is the best all-rounder city car I've ever owned. It's comfy, roomy and actually really easy to park with its cameras and slightly compact length (in its class).

Even with my 20 inch wheels, it's still very comfy.

I also had a X-line F15 35i loaner for a week. It was even more comfy than my E70. Smoother transmission, lighter weight, more car like than SUV.
