Automatic Parking Assistant and Traffic Jam Assist Comes in Fall for 5 Series and X5
BIMMERPOST NEWS Automatic Parking Assistant and Traffic Jam Assist Comes in Fall for 5 Series and X5 Note: this is a global press release, these features may not be available in all markets. September 19, 2013 More safety, comfort and driving pleasure thanks to BMW ConnectedDrive: fully automatic Parking Assistant and Driving Assistant Plus including Traffic Jam Assistant. The BMW ConnectedDrive range of features is set to gain even further in appeal and variety in autumn 2013 with the introduction of a fresh round of innovations which further enhance comfort, safety and therefore also driving pleasure. The optional Driving Assistant Plus system now also includes the Traffic Jam Assistant function, and the new generation of the BMW Parking Assistant also makes its debut – likewise on the options list. Traffic Jam Assistant increases comfort in stop-start situations on motorways. This system maintains a pre-set distance to the vehicle in front and slows the car to a standstill. It also actively takes over the steering, helping the driver to stay in their lane (provided they are holding the steering wheel with at least one hand). The version of Driving Assistant Plus with this new auxiliary function will be available for all BMW 5 Series models from November 2013 and for the BMW X5 from December 2013. The fully automatic BMW Parking Assistant – which will be available for the first time from autumn 2013 – also boasts extended functionality. This system helps the driver to identify and drive into parking spaces positioned parallel to the road. The new version of the Parking Assistant not only carries out the steering movements required to reverse across into the parking space, it also controls the accelerator and brake pedal and selects the correct gear – all the driver has to do is activate the relevant turn signal indicator and hold down the Parking Assistant button, and the vehicle will glide fully autonomously into the parking space selected. The fully automatic Parking Assistant will be available for the BMW 5 Series Sedan and BMW 5 Series Touring from November 2013 and for the new BMW X5 from December 2013. |

Crikey.
My parking sensors have the same beep as the BBC radio clock peeps so when I'm parking at work at dead on 9am it gets confusing. That must be a good rationale to spec this on my next car haha (or I could just the radio off) |

My ideas for traffic jam assist:
1. Sky hook helicopter lifts you out of there and deposits the car where traffic is normal. 2. Bulldozer moves everything out of the way. 3. Everyone else moves out of the way "voluntarily". 4. Cops finally realize that clearing accidents quickly instead of after half an hour of paperwork has a benefit to the public.

Are you certain these are not coming to US ? I saw a BMW USA press release indicating Traffic Jam assist in X5.
I am waiting for this feature to order my new F10 for ED. Did anybody hear anything about this option for 5 series being available for ordering for Nov Production ? |

Anyone has any idea if this can be coded to the current LCI builds? Assuming that a car (say built post July 2013) was ordered with Advanced Parking Pack and Driving Assistant Plus, can this be coded though software?
I think the LCI cars (with the options) already have the necessary hardware/ sensors - so should be able to be coded. Any ideas, anyone?

2014 F15 X5 Update to Available Options - 08/12/2013 Please note that contrary to previous communication on 2014 F15 X5 PKoD videos and Start of Communication, the following options and functionality will not be available on the F15 for the US market: - Traffic Jam Assistant (option 5AR) - Power closing of the tailgate using the key fob Park Assistant (option 5DP) was previously communicated as an available option at launch but will be delayed until SOP 12/13. Please note a new ordering rule will come into effect as of SOP 11/13 that requires Premium Package (ZPP) to be ordered when ordering an Interior Design Package (ZDI or ZMD). |

Here is the lastest updates in PKOD. I can assume that if it is not going to be on the F15 it will not be on the F10 LCI this prodution year. Maybe something legal is holding up to launch here in the US. There are always crazy reasons why things don't make it here. See below on the lastest F10 Production info. Updates to M-sport suspension, etc.
The MY2014 5 Series Sedan (F10) receives a Lifecycle Impulse (LCI) as of July 2013 production. Highlights include: •Exterior and interior design enhancements •Introduction of two new diesel models – 535d and 535d xDrive Sedan •Standard Navigation and BMW Apps on all models •Introduction of Lines – Luxury, Modern, and M Sport •New wheels, paints, upholsteries, and trims •BMW Assist eCall with 10 year subscription Update - M Sport Suspension Availability - posted 08/29/2013 Please note that starting with September production, MY2014 535i (145C), 535d (145M), and 550i (145E) rear-wheel drive sedans equipped with M Sport (ZMM) will now include option 704 M sport suspension at no additional cost. Non Option Credit - Any MY2014 535i, 535d, and 550i rear-wheel drive sedans ordered with M Sport (ZMM) but not equipped with Dynamic Handling Package (ZDH) or M sport suspension (704), will be eligible for a non-option credit of $390. The non option credit is eligible for all retail types and activity will be created at the time when the retail is processed. We are currently working on identifying all affected VINs and will create a report to identify eligible VINs. An update will be sent advising how to access the report. Please note that Start of Production for the MY2014 550i xDrive Sedan will begin as of August 2013. Two exciting new models have been added to the 5 Series Sedan lineup for MY2014 with the launch of the 535d and 535d xDrive Sedan. These models are powered by a 3.0L TwinPower Turbo six-cylinder diesel engine featuring 255 hp and 413-lb ft of torque. The 535d xDrive sprints from 0-60 mph in only 5.7 seconds, while still boasting outstanding fuel economy (MPG figures will be released closer to market launch). We are also pleased to announce that Navigation (609) and BMW Apps (6NR) are now standard on all 5 Series models for MY2014! Featuring a 10.2 inch iDrive screen, a new iDrive touchpad controller and the latest Navigation enhancements, this provides us with a strong competitive advantage and great communication message. F10 LCI Driving Dynamics To further improve the handling and driving dynamics of the 5 Series Sedan, the following enhancements have been made for the LCI: •New suspension application to improve ride comfort over poor road surfaces •Front and rear dampers stiffened to reduce body roll and improve handling •New software setup designed to make steering and handling more precise |

I think it's safe to say neither of these will be offered in the US market M5.

What is the difference between "ACC Stop & Go" and "Traffic Jam Assistant"?
From the description of both, it seems like the exactly same feature under a different name. I placed order on a F10 LCI with "ACC Stop & Go". Is it something different? |

Traffic Jam Assistant also steers your car automatically in addition to Stop & Go. So, if you a re stuck in traffic, the car will not only regulate its speed and keep an appropriate distance from the car in front (aka Stop & Go) but also keep itself in lane (i.e. steer itself).
