Rear Backup Camera Stop Working

The rear backup camera flickered few times and stop working now. Sometime it will still flicker for a second then show a "!" on screen. Does anyone have this problem? I'm taking it in to the dealer this week. I hope it is covered under warranty as the car is just over 1 year old.

p.s. I did have the Trailer Hitch camera zoom function coded, but I doubt it has anything to do with this.

Just take it to the dealer. It's under warranty.

^^^ This. Sounds like a cable issue to me, but could be any number of things. Post the dealer's findings once you get it fixed.

Sounds like warranty issue unless there is impact damage.

There is no physical damage to the camera. It was a sunny day in Texas, I was backing up and it start to flicker then stopped working. I did get down and looked at the camera, it was really hot when i touch it. So something must be shorted inside.

I read in another thread with similar issue and the dealer end up ripping seats off the car to find the issue. (http://f15.bimmerpost.com/forums/sho...d.php?t=983973)

That would be a nightmare for me since I own the car...

If its that hot to the touch, something is definitely wrong. I'd get it looked at ASAP. Last thing you want is an electrical short causing a fire.

The camera flicker for a second then shut off. I guess the SA must seen this issue on other cars before, so she know it will take a long time to diagnose and fix. I was trying to see if other users on the forum might have the same camera issue so we can figure out what could have cause this to happen or maybe I'm just unlucky to have a bad part.

Please keep us updated on the solution. My car is parked outside all the time and it's often hot to the touch. Just today I already burned myself.

There's 3 possible problems.

1. Bad camera
2. Bad camera HSD cable
3. Bad camera module

Not terribly difficult to diagnose. First step, try new camera. If that doesn't work, try Camera using test HSD cable. If neither, change module.

If it turns out to be the HSD cable, dealer has to order the correct retrofit cable. When it arrives they have to do some interior disassembly to re-run through your car.

Beyond this there's a slight possibility the problem lies in the iDrive unit (unlikely) .
