Just reread it, you are partially correct. I.E., cleaned hubs, checked for damage, rotated wheels & called it done.

More than likely it would be out of pocket, but I wouldn't take it to the Dealer to begin with. If you looks at most of the threads, the Dealer is just moving the front wheels to different lug bolt holes (ie., rotating the wheel/tire 72 degrees). Just try it yourself or take it to get the tires rotated. I bet that will fix it without the hassle of a trip to the Dealer.

Tip, go in for side to side rotation after you caulk rims and hub, tell them to rotate tires and move tires one lug down. Much cheaper than how I did it. Both tires should be up or down from mark on hub ( or edge of rotor)

Still tick free a month later after the surface cleaning and rotation.

Just got the call from the Dealership. Yep, they hear the ticking and quoted me around $1,200 to repair it (even though the vehicle is still under CPO). The SA told me that there is a shim that will be installed between the wheel and hub assembly. I challenged the cost, as it seems REALLY high for something that will probably take them less than 1.5 hours. I told them to just leave it and take care of the other issues (oil change and noisy blower motor).

It is hard not to be really disappointed in BMW's overall service (with two local dealerships). We were also quoted $460 for cabin air filters, $485 for engine air filters and ~$1,100 for spark plugs. The SUV has around 45k miles and the plugs were done around 24k miles. "Well with the M vehicles we recommend....", blah, blah. Buddy, I will follow the maintenance book and plugs are not needed. BTW, I did all the filters myself about twelve months ago.

How the hell do they get away with charging so much for simple repairs like the air filters?!

God, I would love to see the BS justification for those filters. Lol.

Btw, the shims are 31108053073 and you need 2x per wheel so 4 in total. Originally i think they only put the shim between the rotor and the wheel but now it looks like they also put it between the rotor and hub.

I think just the hub cleaning is prob the quickest and cheapest fix for this. Take wheel off, clean rust, install, no tick. Repeat as needed.

Thank you so much for posting that!

BTW, I pulled up the part number you listed and it directs me to another part number: 31108053074 (2018 X5M)

These damn things are $100 each, lol. I was thinking about getting wheel spacers...maybe I will do that instead!

Those are for the rear, not sure on the difference between them and the fronts.

The fronts are 31108053073, and are around $60.

Oh BTW, be happy its only $60ish USD.

Here Down under they are $170ish AUD = $120USD.

Lol, was having a chat with my dealer last week about the annual serive and was quoted $1,500AUD/$1100US(ish) for engine oil, engine air filters and rear diff (centre only) oil change.

I guess its not only lawyers that charge $1000p/h. Mechanics do too.

Reviving an old thread. Had the ticking issue on left turns only. Could only hear it when in enclosed spaces liking parking lots, etc.

Had my indie undertake the 'spacer install' TSB from the earlier pages for the front wheels. Each spacer was $180 each! Did it as part of the front brake rotors replacement, so the total bill definitely hurt.

Anyway, it seems to have resolved the issue somewhat, but the ticking is still there, just the frequency/tempo of the ticking has been reduced.

The clicks are a normal thing. Assuming its not your bearings/CV. Try this. Pop off the front wheels, clean the rust of the hub/rotor area that mates with the rim. Also clean the back of the wheel and re-install. This will stop the clicking.

I've had the clicks/ticking and this fixed it. There doesn't seem to be a real fix per-se. Some people have had the clicks return even with the spacers.

I also put coper anti-seize on the hub lip where the rim sits on.

Mine had this and I sorted it 10k miles ago. I removed the front wheels, wire brushed the disc mating surfaces then applied a thin coat of copperslip to the mating surfaces, torqued up the wheel bolts to 140Nm.

Same. It works for like 6 months and I just do it again. So strange.
